Theory Test

Multiple Choice

Hazard Perception

Practical Test

Independent Driving

The theory test consists of two parts – a multiple choice test and a hazard perception test. You must pass both parts to pass your test.
The multiple choice part consists of 50 multiple choice questions. You must score 43 or more to pass this part.
The hazard perception part of the theory test consists of 14 video clips of everyday road situations. You must spot the hazard in each clip as early as possible to score maximum points – 5 points for seeing the hazard as early as possible down to 0 for not seeing the hazard. There are 15 hazards in total which means one clip will have 2 hazards on it. You must score 44 or more out of 75 to pass.

When you have completed both parts you will be given your results
Your practical driving test will be taken in the car you have been learning in.
On the day of your practical driving test your instructor will pick you up approximately 1 hour before your test start time. This gives you time to get to the test centre, to get any last minute nerves out of the way and to go over any last minute worries you may have, and it serves as a warm up before your test
At the start of your test the first thing your examiner will do is check you have the correct documentation and then do an eyesight test from approximately 20 meters away. Then you will be required to answer some vehicle safety questions (show me tell me). After this you will start your practical test, where you will be expected to show that you can drive safely in different road and traffic conditions, and also demonstrate your knowledge of the highway code. You will also be asked to carry out a reversing manoeuvre, and you may be asked to demonstrate an emergency stop. Your driving test will also include approximately ten minutes of independent driving. This is to demonstrate your ability to drive independently by either following traffic signs, a series of directions or a combination of both.

At the end of your test you will be informed by your examiner if you have passed or failed. If you have failed you will be given a report form of your faults, if you have passed you will be given a certificate
To achieve your goal of passing your driving test you will need to take two tests – a theory test and a practical test. The theory test must be passed before you can take your practical test.
